SUMMARY:IIPC TSS Webinar: PYWB: IIPC use cases
DESCRIPTION:The IIPC Technical Speaker Series (TSS) facilitates knowledge sharing and fosters conversations and collaborations among IIPC members around web archiving technical work. In 2021, the IIPC funded a project ( https://netpreserve.org/projects/pywb/ ) which resulted in a Transition Guide ( https://pywb.readthedocs.io/en/latest/manual/owb-transition.html )(from OpenWayback to PYWB) developed by Ilya Kreymer of Webrecorder. Our members have been gradually transitioning to PYWB and the regular releases published by Webrecorder ( https://github.com/webrecorder/pywb/releases ), have incorporated their feedback. This webinar is a follow-up to the webinar we organised in March 2022 ( https://netpreserve.org/event/iipc-tss-webinar-pywb-wrap-up/ )and will feature presentations from two member institutions that have transitioned to PYWB.\nThis event is for IIPC members. Members can view both presentations on our members-only archive (login required).  ( https://netpreserve.org/members-only-archive/pywb-iipc-use-cases-webinar/ )\nAgenda:\n\nPYWB at the National Library of Sweden: Jonas Linde, Information Technology Consultant\n\nAs a system administrator and developer with a thorough knowledge about the inner workings\nof Unix and Linux systems, Jonas has been consulting for various private and public sector\nclients since 1997. With an ardent interest in automation and DevOps transformations, he\nhas spent the last year and a half maintaining and improving the web archiving environment\nat the National Library of Sweden.\nThe talk will outline the old and new web archiving environments at the National Library\nof Sweden, and then dive into specifics about the new one, where Python Wayback plays a\ncentral role.\n\n PYWB at Stanford University Libraries: Laura Wrubel, Digital Library Software Developer and Ed Summers, Software Developer on the Infrastructure Team\n\nStarting in 2012 the Stanford Web Archive Portal (SWAP) ¹ has made web archive collections created by curators available to the Stanford research community and the web at large. In 2022 the OpenWayback software was replaced with PyWB in order to provide sustainable and improved access to these collections. This talk will discuss the rationale for this change, as well as choices made around indexing, user interface customization and integration with with digital preservation and access systems at Stanford. Ongoing challenges and plans for future development will also covered.\nLaura Wrubel is a software engineer working on the Infrastructure Team in the Stanford University Libraries.\nEd Summers is a software engineer working on the Infrastructure Team in the Stanford University Libraries.\n\nView the slides for this presentation here.
