SUMMARY:External Advocacy for Web Archives Watch Party
DESCRIPTION:Advocacy continues to be the metaphorical rocket fuel that propels web archiving programs, but doing advocacy well is tricky. Communicating the benefits of web archiving to diverse audiences requires careful consideration, planning, and delivery. In this era of mass information and complicated digital ecosystems, advocacy for what we do has never been so important.\nFollowing on from our 2022 discussion on promoting web archives to internal staff, the Digital Preservation Coalition’s Web Archiving and Preservation Working Group will once again collaborate with the IIPC’s Training Working Group for a forthcoming webinar on external advocacy.\nIn an event that will be held on the 6th of March, we will hear from organizations that have developed strategies to successfully engage with external audiences, followed by a roundtable discussion and Q&A. This event will be useful for both those new to web archiving – perhaps considering a business case for this function at their own institution – and seasoned practitioners in search of new inspiration for reaching users in cyberspace.\nIn this ‘watch party’ event we will watch back the presentations followed by a roundtable discussion and Q&A with some of the speakers.\nDiscussion about this event on social media can be followed using the hashtag #WAPWG_advocacy.\nProgram\n02:00-03:15 UTC |13:00-14:15 AEDT \n02:00-02:10 UTC |13:00-13:10 AEDT ⏺ Welcome, Robin Wright, DPC\n02:10-02:20 UTC |13:10-13:20 AEDT ⏺ Shereen Tay, National Library Board Singapore\n02:20-02:40 UTC |13:20-13:40 AEDT ⏺ Ricardo Basilio, Arquivo.pt (recorded)\n02:40-02:50 UTC |13:40-13:50 AEDT ⏺ Sholto Duncan, National Library New Zealand\n02:50-03:15 UTC |13:50-14:15 AEDT ⏺ Roundtable Discussion and Q&A\n03:15 UTC |14:15 AEDT ⏺ Close\nRecordings\nAll presentations will be recorded and made available to IIPC & DPC members (login to IIPC or DPC website required). Please note: registration for the event is not required in order to access the recordings after the event.\nRegistration\nClick here to register for this event.\nDPC events rely on having minimum numbers to run successfully and effectively. Low numbers may mean events may not be viable and will need to be cancelled, so please check that you can attend before booking.\nIf you register for this event and find that you can no longer attend, you are welcome to send a colleague in your place. If you need to cancel, please email eleanor.oleary@dpconline.org ( mailto:eleanor.oleary@dpconline.org ) with the event name. If cancelling, please try to provide more than 48 hours notice before the event.\n
