SUMMARY:IIPC RSS Webinar: How to dig into the history of a nation’s web? The development of the Danish web 2006-2015
DESCRIPTION:IIPC Research Speaker Series (RSS) focuses on the research use of web archives and features presentations of use cases, collaborative projects and new tools for researchers. In this webinar Niels Brügger will introduce a study of an entire national web domain and its historical development, with the Danish web 2006-2015 as a case. The study is based on the holdings of the Danish national web archive Netarkivet, and the main focus of the presentation will be on how this collection was unlocked to form an object of study. Main points will be a presentation of the analytical design and overall workflow that was developed, from research question, extraction, data cleaning and corpus creation to analyses and long term preservation. Finally, some of the results and next steps will briefly be presented.\nThe presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.\n\nNiels Brügger is Professor at Aarhus University, the School of Communication and Culture. In 2000 he co-founded the Centre for Internet Studies, Aarhus University, and he has headed the centre since 2010. Since 2014 Head of NetLab, a research infrastructure for the study of the archived web. His research interests are web historiography, web archiving, and media theory. Within these fields he has authored and (co-)edited a number of publications, among others The Archived Web: Doing History in the Digital Age (MIT Press, 2018), The SAGE Handbook of Web history (Ed. with Ian Milligan, Sage, 2018), Web 25: Histories from the first 25 years of the World Wide Web (Ed., Peter Lang, 2017), and The Web as History: Using Web Archives to Understand the Past and the Present (Ed. with Ralph Schroeder, UCL Press, 2017). He is co-founder (2017) and Managing editor of the international journal Internet histories: Digital technology, culture and society (Taylor & Francis/Routledge).\n
