Conference Reception: Information for Participants<\/h3>\n

We are delighted to welcome you to the IIPC Web Archiving Conference 2018.\u00a0As your hosts, it is our very great pleasure and responsibility to ensure that you are formally welcomed to New Zealand, Wellington and the National Library. This will be done in the form of a Mihi Whakatau<\/em>, which is a formal M\u0101ori greeting and welcome.<\/p>\n

Timetable<\/strong><\/h4>\n

1745: Assemble outside Molesworth Street entrance of National Library (pictured)
\n1800: Mihi Whakatau begins
\n1815: Sharing of food
\n2000: End of reception<\/p>\n

Process<\/strong><\/h4>\n

As manuhiri<\/em> (guests), you will be called into the National Library from the assembly point outside the main entrance. This will be done by the kaikaranga<\/em> (caller) of the tangata whenua<\/em> (your hosts). This will be responded to by the kaikaranga of the manuhiri<\/em> (the guests).<\/p>\n

Once inside the Library, the IIPC Steering Committee will be seated opposite the NLNZ party. By doing this, we acknowledge their role of bringing you all to New Zealand.\u00a0All other guests will stand behind the Steering Committee.<\/p>\n

There will be a short speech and waiata<\/em> (song) in Te Reo M\u0101ori<\/em>\u00a0(the M\u0101ori language) from the kaik\u014drero<\/em> (speaker) of the welcoming party. This will be responded to on your behalf.\u00a0After these interactions, Hansueli Locher (Steering Committee and National Library of Switzerland) will represent all guests and say a few words and sing his own waiata.<\/p>\n

After these proceedings, we will share kai<\/em> (food). This completes the welcome to New Zealand, Wellington, the National Library and the Conference. Visitors and hosts are now considered as one for the duration of your stay with us.<\/p>\n

Tikanga M\u0101ori during conference<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Throughout the conference you will see other ways in which we are incorporating Tikanga M\u0101ori<\/em>\u00a0(traditional M\u0101ori practices and protocols).\u00a0 These include:
\n\u2022 Short mihi (<\/em>greetings) in Te Reo M\u0101ori.
\n\u2022 A waiata tautoko (<\/em>song of support) for each of our Keynote or Plenary speakers.
\n\u2022 A karakia (<\/em>blessing) at the end of the conference to thank you for being with us and to wish you safe travels as you return home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
