The National Library of Greece (NLG) is the prime custodian and administrator of Greece’s intellectual heritage. Its goal is to become an internationally renowned Research Centre for Hellenic Studies. 2018 marks the historic relocation of the National Library of Greece to its new premises at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. With its upgraded digital services and its interconnectivity with other libraries – nationally and internationally – the NLG shall be in a position to provide optimal access to a rich collection of printed and digital material on the Hellenic world, for all its users and researchers.
The National Library of Greece is the only authorized organization in Greece for the creation and preservation of web archives. The Web Archiving Project is one of the projects developed in the context of the transition during the last two years, in collaboration with the Informatics Department of Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB). The web archiving team of NLG has conducted its first harvestings using a curator tool developed during the project. The NLG team has carried out bulk and selective harvests and has created the first collections of the Greek Web Archive. These collections will soon be available to the NLG users. Future goals include the enlargement of the existing collections and the creation of new ones, collaboration with other institutions and participation to web archiving projects.
