Descriptive Metadata at Harvard University Archives

Skip Kendall from the Harvard University Archives will speak about their approach to web archiving description in Archive-It.

Skip Kendall is Senior Collection Development and Electronic Records Archivist at the Harvard University Archives, where he has been managing the web archiving program since its inception in 2005.  Skip has a BA in History from California State University, San Bernardino, an MA in History from the University of Oregon, and an MSLIS from Simmons College in Boston.

Preservation Metadata at KB, National Library of the Netherlands

Currently KB, National Library of the Netherlands is implementing a new digital preservation system and establishing workflows in order to preserve all the digital collections in one system. We took this migration as a starting point and as an opportunity to define what preservation metadata means to us. What is it exactly? How can we use our metadata in the future? What to do when you cannot insist on preferred file formats? And what context information is needed for our collections? Susanne van den Eijkel, metadata specialist for digital preservation at the KB, will answer these questions during the webinar.

Susanne van den Eijkel is a metadata specialist for digital preservation at the National Library of the Netherlands. She is responsible for all the preservation metadata, writing policies and implementing them. Her main focus are born-digital collections, especially the web archives. She focuses on web material after it has been harvested, and not so much on selection and tools and is therefore more involved with which metadata and context information is available and relevant for preservation. In addition, she works on the communication strategy of her department; is actively involved in the Dutch Digital Heritage Network and provides guest lectures on digital preservation and web archiving.

The event is finished.
