The German National Library is legally mandated to collect, catalogue, index and archive websites. The archived websites can only be accessed in the reading rooms of the German National Library. All archived websites are listed in the catalogue of the German National Library. They can also be accessed via full text searches or thematic overviews. The selective crawling is done together with the German service provider oia.
An extensive crawl of the top level .de domain was conducted in 2014 in addition to the regularly harvested Web pages in the Web Archive. A portal with a filtered view of all .de sites in the collection of the Internet Archive is available in the reading rooms of the German National Library.
