iPRES 2026 will be held at CPH Conference at DGI Byen in Copenhagen, Denmark. The conference is organised by the Royal Library of Denmark, Rigsarkivet, Københavns Stadsarkiv and the University of Copenhagen.
iPRES is an international community of digital preservation researchers and practitioners. A key element of iPRES conferences is their inclusiveness. Experts from all parts of the world contribute to shaping the conference to ensure that it meets the needs of both seasoned and new digital preservation practitioners, and that the programme embraces new perspectives.

Birds of a Feather Discussions
- Web Archives: Special Case or Just Another Digital Collection? – Andrea Goethals
Web archiving and digital preservation have traditionally evolved as separate fields, yet many organisations now manage web archives alongside other digital collections and records. Should web archives be treated differently, or can they be managed using the same approaches?
Building on the iPRES 2025 panel From Silos to Strategy: Aligning Web Archiving and Digital Preservation, this Birds of a Feather discussion will explore similarities and differences in preservation infrastructure, metadata, access, policies, workflows, and staffing. Participants will discuss experiences, challenges, and lessons learned from managing web archives within broader digital preservation programmes.
The discussion will identify areas of consensus, debate, and opportunities for greater collaboration between the web archiving and digital preservation communities.
